Carport

Austria has two new largest solar carports, both of which were handled by our teams. The projects, with a combined total capacity of 4.67 MWp, were delivered by us on an EPC basis for Austria's largest energy company Verbund and now rank as the first and third largest projects of their kind in the country. The second largest carport in Austria is also among Greenbuddies' references.

Our teams successfully completed and handed over two solar carports in the Austrian municipalities of Lannach and Ilz. The 3.35 MWp carport in Lannach has become the largest solar carport in Austria due to its parameters. It provides 1,044 parking spaces, 96 charging stations for electric vehicles and 24 chargers for electric bicycles.

The second project in the municipality of Ilz has a capacity of 1.32 MWp and offers 406 parking spaces with charging for 48 electric vehicles, making it currently the third largest carport in our southern neighbours. Both car parks use bifacial solar panels, which produce energy from both sides and are up to a quarter more efficient than conventional panel types.

Greenbuddies' collaboration with Verbund, Austria's largest energy company, began in early 2024 on two rooftop PV installations for automotive component manufacturers also in the municipalities of Lannach and Ilz, with a total installed capacity of 6.7 MWp. The scope of this EPC delivery included the preparation of the project documentation, the implementation of the complete installation and the commissioning of the PV plants.

In addition to the carports for Verbund in Lannach and Ilz, we have also carried out the same type of project in Austria for the 1.5 MWp thermal baths in Lutzmannsburg. All three of these carports are among the largest on the Austrian market. We are delighted that we continue to push the boundaries in the solar car park segment in our southern neighbours in this way.

The carports are an ideal example of dual use of space. They protect parked vehicles from inclement weather and, at the same time, enable the environmentally friendly charging of electric vehicles on site using locally generated solar energy.

Austria wants to be climate neutral by 2040 and plans to cover 100% of its electricity consumption from renewable energy sources (RES) by 2030. Photovoltaics have an indispensable place in the RES energy mix. In 2023, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the share of PV in Austria's electricity production was 8.2%, equivalent to 6.091 TWh. In order to achieve the climate neutrality target by 2040, it is crucial that Austria continues at this pace in the years to come.
