Meet the Buddies behind our solar projects! This time, we’d like to introduce Alexander Farmer, our Sales Buddy for the Italian market; Šárka Hrdinová, who handles accounting and tax matters at Greenbuddies; and Daniil Kotrikov, our Engineering Buddy who specializes (among other things) in rooftop solar power plants.

Alexander Farmer – Sales Buddy (IT)

  • What was your first impression of Greenbuddies?

I first came across Greenbuddies on LinkedIn, where I applied for my current role as a Salesman not knowing I was actually applying for Sales Buddy. My initial impression of the company really took shape when I received a response from Monika in HR. What stood out to me most was a cheerful image at the end of her email, paired with a lighthearted joke: “How do solar panels like their eggs? Sunny side up.”

From that moment, I understood the spirit of Greenbuddies. Despite being a large multinational company, it has a genuine sense of humor and a human touch. It showed me that while the company is highly professional, it also knows how to create a positive and enjoyable working environment.

  • What is your position and how would you describe your agenda?

I work as a Sales / Account Manager for the Italian market. My role is to actively identify and engage new clients interested in developing utility-scale PV plants and BESS projects across Italy. My agenda focuses on building and maintaining strong relationships between Greenbuddies and its partners.

What I enjoy most about my position is that it closely reflects who I am in real life. I strongly believe that businesses are, first and foremost, built on people and trust. Creating meaningful connections and turning them into long-term collaborations is what makes this role both challenging and rewarding for me.

  • What do you wish other people knew about the Solar Industry / Greenbuddies?

I often feel that people still underestimate how transformative the renewable energy sector really is, especially solar PV and battery energy storage systems (BESS). Many see it mainly as an environmental choice, but in reality, it is becoming a fundamental pillar of modern energy systems.

Solar energy combined with storage is not just about reducing emissions. It is about reshaping how electricity grids operate, making them more flexible, resilient, and cost-efficient. Batteries in particular are a key enabler, because they solve the intermittency of renewables and allow clean energy to be used when it is actually needed, not only when it is produced.

On a broader scale, I am proud to work in this industry because of its impact beyond climate change. Renewable energy also plays a strategic role in geopolitics and energy security. By producing energy locally and diversifying supply sources, countries become less dependent on external actors and volatile fossil fuel markets. This shift strengthens independence and stability at both national and European levels.

For me, being part of this transition means contributing to something that is not only technically and economically significant, but also deeply meaningful for the future of energy and global balance.

  • What has surprised you most about working with Greenbuddies?

The most surprising aspect of Greenbuddies, in a positive way, was the people. I work remotely from Italy, more specifically from Sicily, so I am not even on mainland. Despite this, I have been able to build strong professional and personal relationships with many colleagues across the team.

This is largely thanks to regular team-building events and industry fairs, where we could meet in person and strengthen collaboration. Since EPC projects rely heavily on coordination between sales, engineering, procurement, and project management, working across distances can sometimes be challenging when it comes to communication and deadlines.

However, what stands out to me is the consistent team effort. Regardless of location or function, everyone is aligned toward the same goal, and there is a strong culture of cooperation that makes even complex projects work smoothly.

Šárka Hrdinová – Accounting & Tax Buddy

  • What is your position and how would you describe your agenda?

At Greenbuddies, I lead a team responsible for all accounting and tax matters. Together, we ensure the smooth running of our financial operations—from issuing invoices to clients and paying suppliers on time to monitoring tax legislation, preparing financial statements, and reporting to management. Our goal is to maintain absolute order and stability in the numbers so that the rest of the company can fully dedicate itself to green projects, knowing that the financial side of the business is in safe hands.

  • What project are you currently working on? what is interesting about it and why do you enjoy it?

Right now, the team and I are focused on preparing documentation for an external audit and the consolidated financial statements, which will be immediately followed by setting up the accounting systems for our branches in Germany, Italy, and Norway. What I enjoy most about all of this is the huge international scope and the dynamic nature of the work—for me, accounting isn’t a routine task, but a constant process of optimization and improvement. I enjoy that, as a team, we’re building a solid financial foundation for Greenbuddies’ expansion and seeing tangible results that are moving the company forward.

  • What do you find most challenging about your job?

Daniil Kotrikov – Engineering Buddy

  • What is your position and how would you describe your agenda?

My name is Daniil, and I’m an electrical designer in the engineering department. I specialise in rooftop solar power plants. I started at Greenbuddies as an engineering support specialist, where I helped the lead engineers with tasks they found less interesting—preparing written documentation, dimensioning objects, or even just picking up supplies. Over time, I learned the ropes while also earning my degree at university. Today, with the help of more experienced colleagues, I can design a power plant on my own, and I also serve as a consultant to both customers and colleagues on issues related to the construction of rooftop power plants. I’m currently working on several projects—a number of large and smaller rooftop solar power plants in the Czech Republic with a total capacity of over 3 MW.

  • Who has influenced your decision to work with Greenbuddies?

When I joined the company—it was basically my first office job—I was pleasantly surprised by how relaxed the team was. Everyone was on a first-name basis and chatted casually, as if I were among friends. Two people made the biggest impression on me: Helena from HR and Honza from Engineering. Neither of them works at the company anymore, but we’re still in touch and see each other from time to time. I was absolutely fascinated by Honza; I couldn’t understand how someone’s brain could work so precisely, like clockwork, and how he could keep so much information in his head and use it instantly. Helena was like an aunt to me, always looking out for me. Martin Marek took over Honza’s position, which ultimately convinced me to stay. Today, my decision to work at Greenbuddies is most influenced by the engineering team and our boss Martin—or Marek; I haven’t quite figured out yet what to call him. 😊

  • When your friends/family find out that you work in the solar industry, what do they say or ask?

My friends usually react neutrally. Some are surprised that solar power plants are still being built, since people initially imagine that photovoltaics are something small for a single-family home, not a 500-kW power plant on a roof. My mom isn’t very tech-savvy, and even though I’ve explained to her several times what I do, I think she still thinks I’m an electrician who installs solar power systems. Sometimes she calls me all excited and says she’s been talking to someone who has a house up north and wants a power plant for lighting, and asks if I’d take on the job. That always makes me laugh.
