Why Trackers?
At a time when efficiency and optimization of solar electricity production are key, solar tracker technology is gaining increasing importance. Trackers allow panels to actively follow the position of the sun throughout the day, significantly boosting energy yields compared to fixed structures. In our pilot EPC tracker project in Sudslava, we had the opportunity to test their behavior and benefits in detail.
How Trackers Work
At the Sudslava site, we installed 20 rows of trackers, with the first three having a slightly different orientation. This is reflected in the data as two distinct tilt angle curves. The trackers are mechanically limited in their movement between +50° and -50°. At night, they remain in a resting position of 5°, which protects the structure from wind and improves water drainage.
As soon as the sun rises, the trackers move to a neutral position to prevent mutual shading between the rows. Then, they begin to follow the sun in what is called automatic mode. Throughout the day, their position is adjusted to maximize energy yield while minimizing shading — a function known as “backtracking.”

Significant Performance Difference
On April 14 at 10:00 a.m., we recorded a notable performance difference between a conventional fixed system (east–west orientation) and the trackers: the fixed system achieved 56% of its installed capacity, while the trackers reached up to 95%. This moment clearly illustrates the potential of the technology, although comprehensive efficiency evaluation requires monitoring production over an entire day or month — such long-term data is currently being collected.
Flexibility and Maintenance
In addition to automatic operation, the system also offers manual control. The client can select any desired tilt angle for individual rows or use predefined modes for maintenance — for example, “clean” and “reverse clean,” where rows are alternately tilted to allow easier panel cleaning.

The Future with Trackers
Solar tracker technology represents a key step toward more efficient solar energy production. It increases energy yield, allows better land utilization, and, thanks to its flexible setup, is also well-suited for specific operational needs. Our experience from Sudslava confirms that a well-designed and managed tracker system brings real value to both investors and end users.
